The event will be held at beautiful Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, which has scenic views of the New Haven
Harbor and Long Island Sound.

An Evening At The Shubert Theater

This season, The Greater New Haven Help Alliance was selected to
participate in the Shubert Night at a Performance Program (SNAP).

Twenty parents, volunteers, and friends were treated to a hilarious performance of Girls Night
Out, On October 14th. SNAP is a community outreach program that helps to make
theater going accessible for people who might not otherwise have this opportunity. One
participant said "...it opened her eyes to some of the amazing things that are going on
right here in our city!"

On October 21, GNHHA was able to sponsor another group to view a
live production of FELA!

Youth participants and family members experienced the rhythmic sounds of Fela Kuti
and got a little Nigerian history lesson in the process! Both evenings were a
huge success.

Greater New Haven Help Alliance is trying to take every opportunity to bring the
community together, provide new opportunities, and make New Haven a better
place to live.

2011 Youth Initiative Summer Work Experience

This summer twenty three young people from different neighborhoods around New Haven blended together to be a part of the sixth year of the GNHHA sponsored Youth Initiative Program. Their mornings were jump started daily with energizing icebreakers, team building exercises, and thought provoking workshops that helped to "re-shape" their ideas about each other, themselves, the community we live in, and their individual futures.

After a full morning of lessons learned, experienced and processed these young adults headed out to their work sites to earn a pay check and put into practice values and concepts that were freshly taking root in their minds.

The Boys and Girls Club, Skills Camp, New Haven Reads, Yale University School of Nursing, Centro San Jose, New Haven Family Alliance, John Martinez Summer Camp, Christian Community Action -Stepping Stone, and Life Haven are on the list of local businesses and organizations that provided work settings for these promising young people.

In order to provide a variety of work experiences, we hope to see more businesses and organizations willing to invest in the future workforce. GNHHA and Youth @Work supply the paychecks; businesses need only provide the work.

2011 GNHHA Outstanding Community Service Award Recipient

This years Annual Banquet was held on Saturday, November 19th. 2011 at Amarante's in New Haven with close to 200 people in attendance. The focus of our banquet is bring awareness of our programs and also to acknowledge those who have made a tremendous impact on improving life in our community.

The Greater New Haven Help Alliance Outstanding Community Service Award was created to honor an individual who fights for the future of New Haven by empowering youth to make a positive impact on the whole community, and this years award was given to Barbara Tinney.

Barbara Tinney is a woman with her ear to the streets, her hand to the plow, and a heart for the children in our city. Her passion and commitment have been an asset to New Haven for many years. The work that she has done and continues to do through the New Haven Family Alliance makes an invaluable impression on the lives and individuals touched by her programs.

And for that we say, thank you Barbara.

Annual Banquet rescheduled to Nov.19th

Snow in October? It's that crazy New England weather.

Well due to this unexpected Fall Nor'Easter we have decided

to reschedule our Annual Banquet to a new date. The roads are really

not safe to drive on and we don't want anyone to get hurt.

Our 2nd. Annual Banquet will now be held on Saturday Nov.19th at

6pm at Amarante's in New Haven.

Though the focus of our banquet is bring awareness of what we are doing

to help the community and also to help raise funds for our various community

projects the banquet is really a fun evening out to socialize, meet new people,

and enjoy a delicious meal.

We look forward to seeing you on November 19th. but for tonight---

It's amazing where help can come from and how help can be given.

After seeing the wonderful work that Helping Hands Community Thrift Store & Furniture Bank is doing we have decided to become part of their network. If you aren't familiar with who they are you have to visit their storefront.

Helping Hands is a really fun and unique shopping experience that not only raises money for non-profit organizations such as ours, but they also have a furniture bank to help those in need.

The Thrift Store is amazing and the quality of their products is excellent and the prices can't be beat. It's over 6,500 square feet and packed with sofas, upholstered chairs, end tables, coffee tables, entertainment units, sleepers, dining room tables and chairs, book cases, kitchen tables and chairs and countless other pieces of furniture.They even have,TVs, electronics, housewares, dishes, pots and pans, artwork, jewelry, clothing, shoes, books, tapes, CDs, DVDs, and so much more.

If you find something and you can't get it home, they offer delivery for a nominal charge.

Do you have some stuff you'd like to donate...
they even offer free furniture pick-up in the Greater New Haven Area and it's a tax write off.

2nd. Annual Banquet October 29th.2011

It's almost that time again... and everybody is scrambling to get everything ready.. On October 29th. we are going to have our 2nd. annual banquet at Amarante's in New Haven. Wow, time goes by so fast, it seems like only yesterday when we were getting ready for our first banquet in 2010.

Last year the banquet was tremendous success. We were able to raise $45,000 and everyone there had a chance for a great evening out to socialize and enjoy a meal that was absolutely delicious. The focus of our banquet is bring awareness of what we are doing to help the community and also to help raise funds for our various community projects.

We don't want to offend anyone and we would love to have everyone join us, but due to limited seating we had to limit our invitations. However, many people have still asked how they can help, even though they wouldn't be attending. It's amazing just how wonderful and understanding people are.

So if you feel led to help us out, you can still help to make this event even more of a success than in 2010.You can make a personal donation or if you would like to, why not become a sponsor. All donations are tax deductible and would make a tremendous difference in the lives of those who need so much.
